FLASHBACK TO YOUTH

Let these old-age spots
vanish forever
into a crystal pool
of cool evenings
and gentle breeze.
Let me gather to my sagging bosoms
all the hope and faith
that I carried
in my trusting heart
so long ago....
oh, so long ago.

Youth speaks only
of kindness,
because she is such sweet ignorance.
But let it be so.
Let her have her period
of naivete
and go shimmering
in enchantment's brevity.
She will walk taller
when the numbers fall around her
and she remembers
the loveliness
of the flower
pressed between the pages
of life's innocent simplicity.
